Plate Techtonics

Could it be that the movement of techtonic plates is not a geologically ancient event, but the aftermath of a tremendous explosion a few thousand years ago. (Since mass extinctions did not occur in this time frame this could not be a meteor impact, but an energy driven explosion, say a billion megatons or so.) Now could analytical engines simulate the movements of the plates, and extrapolate backwards in time and geography to the explosion mid-atlantic? Would Captain Nemo be interested in exploring this spot? What will he find? Are Steam Lords tapping into the same energy that caused this explosion? Inquiring minds need to know.

When you say mass extinctions did not occur, are you saying that the Lost World is an option for exploration? Deep jungles of deepest darkest Africa hiding T-Rex and Ankylosaurus?

Though not my primary thought (rather mass extinctions seem to be millions of years ago), this is an intriguing alternate world possibility, either in alternate 19th century, or aided by time travel. Steam verses T-rex. Hmmmmmmm.

I was more referencing the sci-fi of the day, which had dinosaurs in the jungles. Thinking of Burroughs and his Pelludicar.

Dinosaurs should be in any and all jungles, as well as saber toothed cats big enough to ride. It should also be noted that in the time of dinosaurs, dragonflies were roughly the size of picnic tables ...

*gulp*
